FIFA World Cup 2018: evolution of the Official World Cup ball from 1930 to 2018: Video

The FIFA World Cup 2018 kicked off in Russia on Thursday. Every World Cup has its unique aspects such as the mascot and the match ball, and this time the around, the ball has been called the Telstar – a throwback to the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, where the ball had the same name.

Interestingly, it featured the classic black and white design, which has now become synonymous with footballs across the world, for the first time.

The 2018 version of the Telstar has redesigned panels that are pixelated (for durability) and propellor-shaped to help flight stability. Additionally, there’s an NFC chip also embedded into the ball.
