This was a contest of the two evenly matched teams and will be rememberd for some serious lapses in Polish defense than some extra ordinary brilliance in Senegal attack. Poland really should have played better game at crunch moments.

It was on 37th minute that a strike from Idrissa Gueye on the back of some lovely interplay from Niang and Mane gave Senegal the lead, but it will go down as an own goal for Thiago Cionek as a massive deflection that wrong foots Sxczesny carried in to the bottom right corner. With only eight minutes left in the first half, this was the last thing Poland wanted. Thiago Cionerk, thus also became the first Polish player to score an own goal at a WorldCup tournament.

Later in the 60th minute, Poland made a terrible error to further reinforce the advantage for Senegel. Inside the centre circle, with little pressure, Krychowiak clipped a high back pass to Bednarek and the substitute was completely under-prepared for it. Niang races in unmarked off the right wing and beats both the defender and Szczesny, who tears out of his box to try and stop it. Later a smart chip over the keeper leaves an open net and the Torino man taps home for his first international goal. Senegal had gone 2 – 0 up. M ‘Baye Niang thus converted his first shot on target to a first goal in World cup.

It looked as though the deal was sealed But in the dying moments of the game Poland pulled one back as Krychowiak headed home a free kick from 8 yards out on the left in at the right post with a deft touch. But by then it was too late for Poland to make a come back.
