International Yoga Day 2018 : Indian Army Jawans to perform Yoga in border areas

Thousands of BSF jawans and officers deployed at the border outposts adjoining Indo-Pak border will do yoga on the International Yoga Day on June 21. The preparations are afoot since last one month.

Similarly, Indian Army jawans deployed near border areas and at military stations in Rajasthan will also do yoga on June 21 to spread the message of health and fitness.

Moreover, the district administration has launched a campaign to inspire people to do yoga. Mr Desert and Ms Moomal are going from place to place to create awareness. Anganwadi workers, sarpanch and other public representatives are distributing yellow rice in villages and hamlets to inspire people to do yoga.

Army’s battle AXE division GOC Major General O P Gulia said that Indian Army jawans deployed in Jaisalmer and nearby areas will do yoga together on Yoga Day. The purpose is to spread awareness on the importance of yoga for health.

BSF Rajasthan frontier DIG Ravi Gandhi said that BSF jawans and officers at all outposts, battalion headquarters, and sector headquarters will do yoga together. Since last one month, jawans were learning yoga at Patanjali Yogpeeth. These jawans are now training other people. Besides, many programmes will be organised on Yoga Day including workshops, essay writing, lectures, etc.

On the directions of Commandant Sukhminder Mand, jawans and officers of 56 BN BSF are teaching yoga to residents in border villages.

The district-level programme will be organised at Shaheed Punam Singh Stadium in Jaisalmer wherein 5,000 people will participate. While the block-level programmes will be organised at Pokhran, Mohangarh, Fatehgarh and Ramgarh.

Everyone at district to panchayat headquarters will perform yoga. District collector Anupama Jorwal called a meeting in this regard and gave final shape to the preparations.

Jorwal said that awareness campaign was underway to ensure maximum public participation and yellow rice is being distributed in villages and hamlets. Mr Desert and Ms Moomal have also been roped in to pull crowds.

She said that three days before the event ‘prabhat pheris’ will be taken out and yoga will be practised in the morning. The schools will also hold various competitions on the day.
