"slilght decline" says the news bulletin

A news bulletin “There has been a slight decline in the health of DMK president M Karunanidhi due to age-related ailments” have the political leaders of Tamil Nadu visiting him.

The bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital Executive Director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj.

Karunanidhi is being treated at his Gopalapuram residence by a team of doctors, a health bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital Executive Director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj said.

The bulletin said there was a “slight decline” in Mr Karunanidhi’s health and he is being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection with intravenous antibiotics and fluids.

Karunanidhi, who has served as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister five times, has been recovering from a long illness for more than a year and is rarely seen in public.

Tamil Nadu Deputy CM O Panneerselvam, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar and a few other ministers visited Gopalapuram residence of DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Thursday night to inquire about his health hours after the news bulletin.

After visiting Karunanidhi, Panneerselvam said that Karunanidhi is well.

Jayakumar said that they met Karunanidhi and enquired about his health. “He is doing fine. This is a courtesy visit,” he said.

Jayakumar said it was political decency for the ruling party to visit the opposition leader’s residence, recalling that a DMK delegation had extended a similar courtesy to AIADMK matriarch J Jayalalithaa when she was undergoing treatment at the hospital in 2016.

Kamal Haasan, who had received an offer from Mr Karunanidhi to join politics back in 1993, also was there to inquire about the veteran politician’s health. So was Thirumavalavan of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and former union minister GK Vasan, who broke away from the Congress to revive the Tamil Manila Congress two years ago.

The hospital statement comes a day after Karunanidhi’s son and DMK working president MK Stalin sought to dismiss news concerning his father’s health condition as rumours. “They are only rumours and not any shocking news. Do not believe in them as they are rumours. He is taking rest after changing the tracheostomy tube last week. He had a fever after being discharged from the hospital and doctors are treating him,” he told reporters on July 25. On July 18, Karunanidhi, who had kept away from active politics since October 2016 due to health reasons, underwent a procedure at the hospital to replace the tracheostomy tube with a new one.
