RSS Ideologue Gurumuruthy says Sabarimala entry for women & Kerala floods linked

Even as the rest of India is in a mad scramble to come to the assistance of flood-ravaged Kerala, there are those who have sought to find the cause

Even as the rest of India is in a mad scramble to come to the assistance of flood-ravaged Kerala, there are those who have sought to find the cause and have pointed skyward, not meteorologically, but metaphorically speaking, to indicate that the gods are displeased.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue S. Gurumuruthy, who was appointed to the board of the Reserve Bank of India as a part-time non-official director by the Centre on August 7, 2018, has tweeted: “Supreme court judges may like to see if there is any connection between the case and what is happening in Sabarimala. Even if there is one in a million chance of a link people would not like the case decided against Ayyappan.”

Earlier this month, the SC had reserved its verdict on petitions challenging the restriction on entry of females between the ages of nine and fifty into Kerala’s Sabarimala temple.

There were others on Twitter who felt likewise. “For eons, …women between the ages 10-50 yrs have NOT entered the temple … AND NOTHING UNTOWARD HAPPENED …EVER … IN THE HISTORY OF #SABARIMALA SRI AYYAPAN TEMPLE. We are entitled to our disbelief … but we should not meddle with age-old beliefs & Customs,” tweeted one.

Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple..“No law is above God… If u permit everyone, he denies everyone,” said another. “I’m fully convinced what Kerala is facing now is due to meddling in #Sabarimala,” said yet another.

However, others were incensed by Gurumurthy’s remarks. “Don’t link this with any religious issue. Not in good taste. Helping stranded people is the need of the hour,” tweeted ‘Manikandan’.
