Won’t rest until Congress comes to power, says Rahul Gandhi

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi made her debut in active politics on Monday with a massive roadshow in the Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow. Congress president Rahul Gandhi, and general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia were among the other party leaders who were part of are slowly moving towards the party headquarter where the roadshow will conclude.

Rahul, Priyanka and Jyotiraditya reached Lucknow earlier today to hold a 15-kilometre long road show. Priyanka is also slated to address a mega rally later today. While Rahul is expected to return to Delhi today, Priyanka and Jyotiraditya will hold discussions with state party leaders on election preparedness.

Today’s roadshow has come as a boost for thousands of Congress workers in the state after the poor show by the party in last few elections, be it 2014 general elections, or 2017 Uttar Pradesh polls.

The moment Congress leaders climbed up the bus, Congress workers started showering rose petals at them. The BJP, on the other hand, while reacting to the roadshow, expressed confidence that Priyanka Gandhi’s entry in Uttar Pradesh will not impact their votes.

Hopes are riding high on Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia whom the party workers and supporters believe will turn the party’s political fortunes in the state, which as 80 parliamentary seats. In 2014, the BJP had wrested 71 seats. Uttar Pradesh, which has the largest Lok Sabha seats in the country plays an important role in formation of governments at the Centre.
