Stock Market: Indian equity indices end lower

Mumbai: Indian equity benchmark indices ended lower today . The  benchmark indices witnessed profit booking a day after clocking robust gains on the first session of Samvat 2080.

BSE Sensex ended 326 points, or 0.5% lower at 64,934. 23 of the 30 index stocks ended lower in BSE.  NSE Nigty settled at 19,444, down 82 points or 0.42%.  36 of the 50 36 stocks closed lower in NSE. About 1659 shares advanced, 2043 shares declined, while132 shares were remained  unchanged.

Top gainers were Coal India, Aurobindo Pharma, DB Realty, Canara Bank, and  Federal Bank. Top losers were  SBI Life, Bajaj Finance, Grasim, Infosys, Nestle India, Apollo Hospitals, Tech M, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, TCS, Reliance Industries, HDFC Life, and Bajaj Finserv. All these stocks fell between 0.6% and 2.3%.

The broader markets,  settled mix the frontline indices with the BSE MidCap index rising 0.10%  but the BSE SmallCap index down 0.01%. Sectorally, the Nifty PSU Bank index climbed the most (up 2.6%), followed by the Nifty Metal index (up 0.37%). On the downside, the Nifty IT index declined 0.73%.
