Kerala police undergoes training in crypto analysis and cyber financial crimes

To enhance their capabilities in addressing sophisticated cyber financial crimes involving cryptocurrency, the state police in Kerala have initiated the training of 120 officers in this specialized domain. The training program, launched on Monday, is organized by the newly established Cyber Investigation Unit in collaboration with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and IIT Kharagpur. This marks the first instance where the department is assembling a dedicated team to combat advanced cyber financial crimes related to digital currency. Among the 120 officers selected for training, 40 are inspectors, and the remaining are sub-inspectors, all of whom will receive five days of hands-on training.

The selected officers will undergo training not only in cryptocurrency analysis but also in the newly formulated Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Loan Apps, Investment-type fraud SOP, and the amended IT Rules. The unique training approach involves two inspectors and four sub-inspectors from each district undergoing the basic module. Cyberdome Kochi is leading the cryptocurrency research, utilizing a combination of four open-source tools to create a user interface for training purposes. The department plans to continue leveraging open-source tools due to their cost-effectiveness compared to imported alternatives.
