Sitharaman dismisses Kerala’s fund delay allegations.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman rebuffed Kerala’s Left government’s accusations of fund negligence, asserting that the Centre promptly disburses funds without delay. Sitharaman contended that delays were due to the state’s failure to meet necessary criteria. She criticized the CPI(M)-led alliance, claiming that substantial Finance Commission Grants were released to Kerala under PM Narendra Modi. Addressing a Credit Outreach Programme in Attingal, she cited the release of Rs 602.14 crore under NSAP and clarified issues regarding the 7th UGC pay revision.

Sitharaman highlighted the Central government’s support during COVID-19, offering 50-year interest-free loans. She emphasized compliance with branding guidelines for Centrally Sponsored Schemes. On health grants and GST Compensation Cess, she insisted on meeting stipulated conditions. Responding to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s accusations, Sitharaman stated that funds reach Kerala on time. The exchange follows the LDF’s criticism of the Central government, with plans to protest in Delhi, claiming the state is owed Rs 58,000 crore in aid.
