Rescue personnel successfully recovered the body of S Naresh, a 20-year-old worker, from a 60-foot trench at a construction site in Velachery, Chennai. The retrieval occurred in the early hours of Friday, nearly 100 hours after the mishap during the heavy rainfall caused by Cyclone Michaung on December 4. Naresh, employed at a nearby petrol bunk, is believed to have fallen into the trench during the downpour. The Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner, J Radhakrishnan, confirmed Naresh’s identity and informed that the search operation is ongoing to rescue another person still trapped in the trench. The additional rescue effort is expected to take at least three hours. In a related incident, R Jayaseelan, an assistant engineer with Green Tech, fell into the same trench when the land collapsed, bringing down a makeshift container office. The police have not yet filed charges against the construction companies involved in the incident.
