Police Increase Vigilance Around Parliament and Assembly Following Dec 13 Security Breach

In response to the security breach on December 13, heightened security measures were implemented in and around Parliament on Thursday. Stringent checks were conducted on individuals entering the premises, including thorough inspections. Security personnel emphasized the removal of shoes, as some individuals had used them to conceal smoke canisters upon entering the chamber. Barricades were set up outside Transport Bhavan, with mandatory ID card and entry pass checks for anyone attempting to go beyond.

Within the Parliament premises, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma faced entry restrictions at Makar Dwar, designated for MPs. Forced to exit his car, Sangma had to walk to Shardul Dwar for entry. Ministry officials, private secretaries, and staff were redirected from Makar Dwar to Shardul Dwar, intended for MPs’ entry only. Drivers lacking passes were denied entry.

The upcoming Winter Session of the Delhi Assembly, starting Friday, will also witness heightened security measures, including thorough frisking and checks for pass holders accessing the visitors’ gallery. These precautions are in response to the Parliament security breach, ensuring a comprehensive review of security protocols.
