Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office releases the toxicology report on late Matthew Perry

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has revealed the cause of Matthew Perry’s death, indicating that the beloved actor passed away on October 28, 2023, due to the acute effects of ketamine. Perry, famous for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends, had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy as part of his treatment for depression and anxiety. The controlled administration of ketamine is a therapeutic approach, but the specific method of intake leading to the fatal overdose has not been disclosed.

The toxicology report highlighted the high levels of ketamine in Perry’s postmortem blood specimens, causing cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression, ultimately resulting in his untimely death. The report also identified other contributing factors, including drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid use disorder. Authorities ruled the death as accidental due to the combined impact of these factors.

Perry was found in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home around 4 pm on the day of his death. Emergency responders were called for a cardiac arrest, and no signs of foul play or drugs were found at the scene. While tragic, the circumstances surrounding Perry’s passing were not considered suspicious.

Perry’s Friends co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, expressed deep sadness at his loss. In a joint statement, they emphasized that Perry was more than just a cast mate; they had a familial bond with him. Aniston shared that she had exchanged texts with Perry on the morning of his death, describing him as happy and healthy. The news of Perry’s death has left fans and colleagues mourning the loss of a talented actor and beloved personality.
