Police request Meta for information on 6 suspects in Parliament security breach

On Monday, Delhi Police reached out to social media giant Meta, formally requesting information about the six individuals implicated in the Parliament security breach on December 13. Authorities are particularly interested in obtaining details about the ‘Bhagat Singh Fan’ page on Facebook. Additionally, they have sought WhatsApp chats between the accused from Meta, as the alleged mastermind, Lalit Jha, reportedly destroyed their phones. There is hope that saved chats on mobile devices or Google Drive backups may provide valuable information, according to a senior official. The ongoing investigation involves the scrutiny of digital footprints and bank details of the six accused individuals—Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Neelam, Amol Shinde, Mahesh Kumawat, and Lalit Jha—who are currently being questioned separately.

In pursuit of leads, a Delhi Police team visited Manoranjan’s residence in Mysuru, questioning his parents for over four hours. Simultaneously, a three-member Special Cell team, accompanied by Kolkata Police personnel, visited Kolkata. The team explored various locations connected to Lalit Jha, including Burrabazar, where Jha and his family resided a month ago. Interacting with locals and gathering information from a tea stall owner, the Delhi Police team documented statements about Jha. The team also visited a flat in Baguiati, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, where Jha lived with his family before relocating from Bihar.
