PM Modi lays foundation stones for new initiatives in TN

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated completed projects and laid the foundation stone for new initiatives worth Rs 20,140 crore in Tamil Nadu. Addressing recent rains, floods, and losses in the state, he expressed deep empathy for the affected families, assuring the central government’s support. Inaugurating 20 projects related to air and seaports, railways, highways, petroleum, natural gas, atomic energy, and higher education, Modi also praised the late DMDK leader Vijayakanth for his contributions to both cinema and politics, emphasizing his commitment to national interest. Additionally, he paid tribute to the recently deceased farm scientist M S Swaminathan, highlighting his role in ensuring food security for the country.

During his visit, Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, developed at a cost of over Rs 1,100 crore. The state-of-the-art facility, spanning two levels, can accommodate over 44 lakh passengers annually and 3500 passengers during peak hours. Furthermore, the Prime Minister dedicated the General Cargo Berth-II of Kamarajar Port in Chennai and laid foundation stones for petroleum and natural gas projects exceeding Rs 9,000 crore. These initiatives aim to address the energy requirements of the region, catering to industrial, domestic, and commercial needs.
