In a letter to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, PM Modi expressed heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, expressing solidarity with Japan during this challenging time. Emphasizing India’s strong relationship with Japan as a strategic and global partner, PM Modi assured that India stands ready to provide all possible assistance in the aftermath of the disaster.
Despite various countries extending offers of help, Japan has not officially accepted any assistance as of now. There are reports suggesting that the United States is preparing for military logistical support and aid to assist regions in Japan severely affected by the earthquake. However, official confirmation from Japan is awaited. Following the earthquake, U.S. President Joe Biden expressed prayers for the people of Japan and conveyed readiness to provide any necessary assistance, given the close alliance between the two nations. The earthquake in central Japan resulted in significant casualties, with 48 lives lost, over 120 individuals injured, extensive damage to buildings, widespread power outages, and displacement of tens of thousands of households, leading to residents in coastal areas seeking refuge in higher elevations.
