SpiceJet Implements ‘strategic restructuring’

SpiceJet recently initiated a strategic restructuring effort, resulting in the departure of key members from its commercial team, including the Chief Commercial Officer. Despite these changes, a company spokesperson expressed optimism about SpiceJet’s performance, citing notable growth in revenue and load factor. Additionally, the airline has secured Rs 1,000 crore in funding from various investors and is presently undergoing a restructuring phase aimed at reducing costs, which includes laying off approximately 800 employees.

Reports suggest that Shilpa Bhatia, the former Chief Commercial Officer, and Arun Kashyap, the former Chief Operating Officer, have resigned from SpiceJet. Speculations hint that Bhatia and Kashyap might be planning to venture into their own charter airline business. Moving forward, SpiceJet aims to focus on enhancing capacity, pursuing rapid growth, and maintaining a strong foothold in the Indian aviation sector, as outlined by the airline spokesperson.
