Minor girl kidnapped and rapped: Suspect duo fined and sentenced

A court on his verdict on a case in which a 13-year-old is kidnapped and raped, sentenced a man to life imprisonment and his accomplice to 10 years in jail. Noting that such an offense has made women and children unsafe on the road and encroaching upon their fundamental right to freedom of movement.

Additional Sessions Judge Gurdeep Singh also awarded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the survivor, while directing that the amount is paid in equal proportion by convicts, Gaurav and Harish, residents of northeast Delhi.

Such offense has not only left a deep scar on the survivor but also made women and children unsafe on the road which encroaches upon their fundamental right to freedom of movement,” the court further noted.

Advocate Shabnam Khan, appearing for Delhi Commission for Women, urged that a higher compensation is awarded as per the Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme, 2015.

The minor was kidnapped and raped on February 9, 2012, by the two men. The accused claimed they were innocent and alleged that the girl used to roam around in a vehicle with a boy but failed to produce any evidence.
