Detectives arrested for cheating; ‘Lady James Bond’ arrested

What appeared to be a leak has now turned out to be a racket that involves some VIPs, according to officials in Mumbai.

The Thane crime branch has arrested two detectives for possession of Call Details Records (CDR) on Wednesday. Ajinkya Nagargoje and Jaspreet Singh have been arrested for cheating (Section 420) of the Indian Penal Code and computer-related offences (Section 66), penalty for breach of confidentiality and privacy (Section 72) and punishment for disclosure of information in breach of lawful contract (Section 72(A)) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The accused used to work for a detective agency. Meanwhile, a court on Wednesday extended till February 11 the police custody of Rajani Pandit, said to be the first woman detective of the country, who was arrested for her alleged involvement in the illegal procurement of CDRs. Pandit, also known as ‘Lady James Bond’, has solved around 75000 cases since 1983. She has received several accolades and is one of the famous detectives in India.
