Jammu Kashmir’s Shopian encounter reveals shocking information

Jammu Kashmir, today witnessed an encounter between the India forces and the militants.

While the forces have been able to corner the militants, some shocking revelations too have come to light.

Top Hizbul commander and one of the last surviving members of the Burhan Wani brigade, Saddam Paddar, was gunned down today by security forces in Kashmir’s Shopian.

Apart from Paddar, four other militants have been killed in the encounter that broke out in Shopian’s Badgam area early Sunday morning.

Two out of the other four terrorists have been identified as — Bilal Molvi and Aadil Malik.

A day after reports came out of a missing assistant professor of Kashmir University joining militant ranks, he has been killed after he was trapped today by a joint team of security forces in Shopian district of South Kashmir.

An intense gunfight between militants and security forces occurred today in Shopian’s Badgam area where the assistant professor, too, was trapped.

The assistant professor, identified as Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat, went missing on Friday. His family reached out to KU authorities after they heard rumours of Rafi joining militant ranks after which the police filed a missing report.

The police had earlier called Rafi’s family to persuade the assistant professor to surrender. He was a resident of Chundana, Ganderbal.

“We have contacted his family after coming to know that Rafi has been trapped along with other militants at Badigam area of Shopian,” a police officer had told a leading news agency.

Meanwhile, a policeman and an Army soldier who were injured in the crossfire have been rushed to a military hospital. SOG (Special Operations Group) personnel Anil Kumar and a soldier of 44 RDD are critically wounded, an official confirmed to the agency

Army’s 23 para-commandos, 34 and 3 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and SOG were also pressed into action today to assist the forces in the encounter.

Meanwhile, the Jammu Kashmir Director General of Police S.P Vaid has congratulated the men on their work.
