Your eyes can emit laser like Superman ?

Eyes that emit laser? We have seen Superman doing it. When Superman does something, its desi version Shaktiman will do it too. But can you do it ? May be you can. Scientists have created contact lenses that you can wear and shoot lasers from it, like those superheroes. But may be thoughts of saving the world with this superpower is a little far fetched!

The thin membranes are placed on the iris and they produce a green laser beam which can go up to as far as 20 inches from eye.So if you are thinking about getting yourself a visor like the one worn by Cyclops, may be you needn’t. The lasers are not very powerful to cause any damage. It is only about a nano watt, that is one billionth of a watt, not even as powerful as a small light. The laser-contact lens finds it application in wearable security tags(as it would be difficult for someone else to make the laser with exact same wavelength), to find counterfeit notes or may be as a kind of laser bar code.

The membrane with the material are ultra thin, as thin as less than thousandth of a millimetre and they are also flexible so they can be used in many places , like the soft plastics used for flexible contact lenses. The test was conducted on an eye ball of a cow as cow’s eyes have structural similarity with that of humans. The researchers felt that it could easily switch from prototype to mass production. They  felt that by combining the recently developed roll-to-toll nano-imprint and organic ink jet technology, membrane lasers could be produced with low cost.
