The current news comes from a Thai based airline, where a passenger was slapped a fine of $94, as his long last name got him in to trouble. But no it’s not the fact that he had a long name that left him $94 less rich, but it’s so happened because he had to alter his last name before he could board the flight. So it’s actually a ‘name changing’ fine which isn’t very uncommon. but what is sad is that the error had occurred not because of the passengers fault.

According to Travel+Leisure, the man couldn’t enter his information properly on the website as his name wouldn’t fit in the space. Thus he had to sacrifice certain characters of his name and that meant his name on the ticket didn’t match the one in the passport. The man was fined for this mismatch.

Thai airlines later apologised the man and promised to upgrade their online system to accommodate more characters. They even gave him a full refund and asked to call the airline if someone is having similar issues. The man and his long name remain anonymous.
