17 lives lost in another high intensity dust storm in UP

On Friday evening another high-intensity dust storm struck Uttar Pradesh which claimed 17 lives and injured 11. Most of the deaths have been attributed to the falling of trees and house collapses by the Government.

A State Government spokesperson said that Moradabad bore the maximum brunt of the storm claiming 7 lives, followed by Sambhal(3 deaths). Two deaths each were reported from the districts Badaun, Muzaffarnagar, and Meerut. One death was reported from Amroha.5 persons were injured in Amroha, 3 in Moradabad,2 in Muzaffarnagar and 1 in Badaun.

All the district magistrates have been directed by the State Government to distribute relief within 24 hours. Uttar Pradesh was swept by three major dust storms last month which left 130 people dead.

39 people died in various districts including Bareilly, Barabanki, Bulandshahr and Lakhimpur Khiri districts on May 13. A severe storm on May 9, left 18 dead and 27 others injured. Five people died in Etawah district, three each in Mathura, Aligarh, and Agra, two in Firozabad and one each in Hathras and Kanpur Dehat.

Heavy thunderstorms and lightning hit the state from May 2 to 3 which killed 80 people in the state, the majority of the fatalities from Agra district in Western UP.
