When Pinarayi Focused too Much on Modi and Forgot to Tie up his own Loose Ends

Communist Party in India is facing the danger of being obsolete in the context of Indian Politics. For long they held Tripura and Kerala, two of the smaller states of India as a bastion that cannot be breached. But despite the overwhelming presence of Manik Sarkar, they couldn’t hold on to what they thought as their fortress. Kerala remains as it’s last hope, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the last standing CM of a Communist ruled state. But ironically, the minister has found his focus fixated on the wrong place, going after issues of North India and letting his own forces off the hook.

The Communist leaders including the C.M himself have revelled in the pleasures of picking up issues in the North and serious fissures in his police administration have been exposed multiple times. His go-to response, as it is so often mocked by the opposition has been “there was a mistake and it will be fixed” but sadly the mistakes had caused losses too dear to be fixed.

Neenu, a young girl from Kottayam district of Kerala could hardly live a day with her husband, thanks to the sloppy and cruel ‘inaction’ (rather ‘action’ in favour of the perpetrator) of Police. Sreejith, was an innocent boy, wrongly accused and kicked to death by the Police, Liga was an Irish woman who went missing as Police sat on the complaint to pick up her dead body days later. The latest incident to the list of embarrassment has been the one that occurred in Edappal theatre.

In an act of unmatched dereliction of duty, Police had arrested the theatre owner E C Satheesh, who’s timely action brought the terrible act to the eye of public. He was arrested for apparently ‘hiding’ the information from Local Police(in a case that involved POCSO Act) , as the man had made a complaint to Child Helpline instead. The Police wanted an ordinary citizen to be well aware of the intricate Legal details and couldn’t let that go! In a society where people are already scared to speak out on such issues, this will only serve to accentuate that tendency.

Police had teamed up with the wealthy and influential MoideenKutty, the 60 year old man who abused the girl only one-sixth of his age inside the theatre. One can only assume what kind of returns had the police received or been promised to forfeit their conscience(if it exists) and submit wilfully to the whims of offender. Pinarayi Vijayan once again cut a sorry figure, appeared as an individual incapable of controlling the ‘forces’ inside his police force.

Despite all the mishaps, C.M, other ministers and supporters continues to claim his achievements of taking instant action against the offenders. They have failed to realise that the primary duty of a Minister is to ensure the safety and security of the citizens and not doing ‘repair’ jobs. They need to be pro-active and not reactive. If you cannot see what’s happening next to you, looking far ahead in to North India is not going to win you anything. The supporters of Communist party will do themselves a great favour if they can rectify their own mistakes before knit picking someone else’s flaws.
