In India’s politics, the leaders making controversial comments is not new. Moreover, it has become a regularity.
So another MLA creating a new controversy, particularly aimed at the rival is no different.
BJP MLA Pannalal Shakya, who is known for making controversial statements, has some advice for women in India – ‘if you cannot give birth to sanskari kids remain infertile’. The BJP MLA from Guna in Madhya Pradesh gave this special advice in reference to women who gave birth to Congress leaders.
“Congress came up with the slogan of ‘Gharibi Hatao’ but instead wiped out the poor. There are women who give birth to such leaders. Women should rather remain infertile than produce kids who are not ‘sanskari’ and who deform society,” the MLA said while addressing a public event on Wednesday.

Shakya has been in the news in the past for making controversial statements.
In March, he claimed that observing International Women’s Day is a foreign tradition and girls and boys should refrain from western tradition of dating to end sexual misconduct. “Why do girls make boyfriends? If they stop doing this, the atrocities against them will stop,” Shakya said at an event at the Guna Government College.
The BJP leader had in December last year questioned Team India captain Virat Kohli’s “patriotism” after he married actress Anushka Sharma in Italy.
Such bizarre comments by BJP leaders are not uncommon. From Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who said that the internet existed during the Mahabharata era, to Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Sharma, who said that journalism began in the Mahabharata era, every day BJP leaders are busy making unscientific remarks in an attempt to highlight the achievements of ancient India to promote their “Hindutva ideology”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked his party member to refrain from speaking out of turn and not hurt the party image a few weeks ago.
But the erring lawmakers do not take the PM seriously and continues to make provocative statements.
