200Kms in 25 Minutes : Maharashtra exploring hyperloop in Mumbai-Pune route

Exploring a greener and faster alternative system to decongest Mumbai, CM Devendra Fadnavis is all set to introduce hyperloop transportation in Mumbai-Pune route. Hyperloop is a high tech and the most modern transportation system, through the implementation of which one can cover 200kms of distance between Mumbai and Pune in 25minutes! Now it requires about 4 hours to travel this route.

Devendra Fadnavis, who is on a tri-nation tour and now in the US, has approached Virgin HyperloopOne which is run by Richard Branson for the implementation of this modern train project in Mumbai. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office(CMO) said that CM had visited the Virgin HyperloopOne test site in Nevada and had met the company’s CEO and board member Rob Lloyd.

Engineers are planned to send from the Virgin HyperloopOne’s plant in the US to Pune to conduct a study. For a demonstration, the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority(PMRDA) has already identified a 15 KM long demonstration track for Hyperloop.

CMO’s statement said that the 70% of the materials and components required for Hyperloop could be sourced within Maharashtra itself.

Virgin HyperloopOne founder-chairman Richard Branson had announced a framework agreement for the project in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis during his visit to Mumbai for the ‘Magnetic Maharashtra’ Conclave held in February.

A pre-feasibility study has been completed by the company recently in Mumbai-Pune route.

The electric efficient hyperloop system is expected to reduce greenhouse emissions up to 1,50,000 ton annually.
