Kuttanad loan fraud case : Fr Thomas Peeliyanikkal under Police custody

Kuttanad Development Committee Executive Director Fr. Thomas Peeliyanikkal was taken into custody by a team led by District Crime Branch DySP on Tuesday in a loan fraud case. He had been arrested from Kuttanad Development Committee’s office in Ramankari.

Fr Thomas is accused of taking crores of rupees as loans from different banks in Alappuzha allegedly by forging fake documents and in the name of several cooperative societies under the names of others in Kuttanad. Crime Branch has informed that father had been taken into custody for questioning.

He had been taken into custody after taking advise from the law experts as he had taken anticipatory bail from the High Court beforehand. But as he was not entitled to get the anticipatory bail in all the cases registered against him, the investigators boldly moved forward to get him arrested.

12 cases are registered in different police stations against this friar who used his clout as a religious person to loot the poor people in Kuttanad. He has been taken for undertaking medical check-ups after being brought to the Crime Branch district office.

Along with Fr. Thomas Peeliyanikkal, Advocate Rojo Joseph who is a native of Kavalam and also an NCP leader and currently the member of Veliyanad Block Panchayat, Kuttanadu Development Committee office staff Thresyama have also been convicted in this case.
