Drugs detected in scanner

The airport officials have seized and arrested a man for having drugs in his possession.

The British national accused was caught with 7.8kg of cocaine at the Dubai airport. He stood trial on Monday.

The Court of First Instance was told that the 60-year-old man, who was transiting through the Dubai International Airport, was caught on May 11 trying to smuggle the drugs. He pleaded not guilty at court, claiming he had nothing to do with the substance found in his possession.

A customs inspector, who was on duty at Terminal 3, said the accused was on his way to Guinea from Brazil via Dubai. “We passed him to the inspection point after his luggage went through the X-ray system and we had doubts he could be carrying some banned substance. He told the inspectors it was his bag, but said he had nothing to do with the drugs found inside.”
