M. Karunanidhi who has been hospitalized on Friday night has been reportedly shifted to the ICU OF Kauvery Hospital.

The DMK leader, who is being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection, was shifted to a private hospital from his residence in Chennai early on Saturday, the party said.

The 94-year-old leader was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kauvery Hospital around 1:30 am.

He was brought to the hospital after his blood pressure was dropped. After receiving the news about Karunanidhi being admitted to the hospital, party cadre from various parts of the state poured in there chanting “long live Thalaivar” (leader). Hours before Karunanidhi was moved to the hospital, Stalin had said the former Tamil Nadu chief minister’s health was improving.

Actors and politicians had visited the non-agrarian leader after hearing of his condition.

TIGHT SECURITY AROUND STATE

The Tamil Nadu police have put in place a security plan that covers the entire state in anticipation of any law and order problem caused by emotional DMK supporters turning violent. Special units are to guard vital installations and transit points, besides ensuring security for VIPs heading to Kauvery Hospital.

Ensuring smooth traffic flow and containing the crowds have become a challenge for the city police.

Ther police are keeping tabs on those spreading rumors about the DMK leader’s health condition on social media platforms.

Officers were also instructed to deploy personnel at railway stations and bus terminuses to avoid untoward incidents.
