Pair Attempting Puja Holiday House Robberies Nabbed in Malappuram

In Malappuram district, the Kottakkal Police made a significant arrest on Monday, apprehending a two-member robbery gang that had been targeting locked houses during the Puja holidays. The culprits, identified as Kalathodan Abdul Kareem (40) from Vattallur and Puliyamadathil Abdul Latheef (31), were taken into custody from a rented residence in Mariyad near Manjeri.

The arrest follows their involvement in a robbery where they stole 11 sovereigns of gold, Rs 76,000 in cash, and a scooter from a house located at Mulapparambu near Kottakkal on October 16. Shockingly, the police revealed that this duo had a history of multiple similar robberies and had been released on bail just a mere two weeks prior.

According to Kottakkal Station House Officer Aswith S Karamayil, the tactics employed by the two criminals were far from sophisticated. He stated, “Abdul Kareem will mostly execute the robbery while Latheef would drop him at the house and then return to pick him up.” They relied on a two-wheeler to move around stealthily during the night. Inspector Karamayil also added, “They have been involved in a large number of similar cases within the state and maybe outside the state as well. We are investigating.”

In response to the rising cases involving this pair, Malappuram District Police Chief S Sujith Das swiftly established a team to delve deeper into their criminal activities. This team comprises DySP P Abdul Basheer, Kottakkal Inspector Aswith S Karamayil, and members of the DANSAF squad. Their efforts aim to shed light on the extent of this duo’s criminal actions and the potential ramifications beyond the state’s borders.
