Former Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy Resigns from BJP, Rejoins Congress

Former MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy has officially resigned from the BJP and announced his return to the Congress. In a statement provided to the media, he explained that his decision stemmed from his belief that the Congress has now emerged as a viable alternative to the ruling BRS (abbreviated party name not provided), as the Centre has not taken any action against the BRS government amid allegations of significant corruption. Rajagopal expressed confidence that political change in Telangana would occur within five weeks, and he anticipated the upcoming assembly elections would result in the BRS’s defeat.

He conveyed his gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for placing trust in him and offering the opportunity to contest the Munugode by-election, even though he narrowly lost by a small margin of votes. Rajagopal hoped that the BJP leadership would understand his political decision, which he asserted was made in alignment with the opinions of the people. Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who is the younger brother of Bhongir Congress MP Venkat Reddy, initially won the Munugode seat in the 2018 Assembly elections on a Congress ticket. However, in August 2022, he left the Congress to join the BJP. He faced defeat in the subsequent Munugode by-election against BRS candidate K Prabhakar Reddy.
