Popular Bollywood playback singer Nikhita Gandhi expressed deep shock and grief regarding the tragic stampede at Kochi’s CUSAT campus, where four lives were lost and over 40 individuals sustained injuries. The unfortunate incident unfolded just moments before Nikhita’s scheduled musical concert for the Tech Fest on Saturday night.
In response to the heart-wrenching event, Nikhita shared her sentiments on Instagram, saying, “Heartbroken & devastated by what took place this evening in Kochi. Such an unfortunate incident took place before I could even leave for the venue for the performance. No words are possible enough to express this profound grief. My prayers go out to the families of the students.”
The victims included three second-year engineering students among the four fatalities. Reports indicate that the tragedy occurred as a crowd rushed towards the auditorium, causing those standing on the steps in front of the main gate to fall. The ensuing stampede resulted in four fatalities and numerous injuries. The incident transpired at the open auditorium inside the CUSAT campus around 7 pm on Saturday.
Authorities have identified lapses in crowd control arrangements as contributing factors to the tragedy. Thrikkakkara police have initiated a thorough investigation, gathering statements from witnesses to understand the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
