The Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee has, meanwhile, romped home at West Bengal’s Naopara and Ulluberia constituencies. While BJP has failed to impress the electorate in Rajasthan, it has emerged as a runner-up in West Bengal relegating the Left Front to third and Congress to the fourth position.
TMC retains Ulluberia seats, wife of late TMC MP Sultan Ahmed Sajda Ahmed won the Uluberia by-poll by a margin of 2,89,557 votes. The BJP meanwhile emerged second in both the seats pushing Left Front to the third position. In Uluberia, BJP received 1,68,805 votes while CPM bagged 85,244 votes.
In Naopara assembly seat by-poll results TMC candidate Sunil Singh wins with 1,11,729 votes. After winning the Noapara by-poll, TMC candidate Sunil Singh said, “It is a great win and it shows people’s faith in TMC. I will now work for the people. There was a rumor that former TMC leader and now a BJP leader Mukul Roy would be a factor in Noapara seat but he could not make a difference in reality.”

In Noapara, BJP registered 38,711 votes while CPM managed to get 35,497 votes. The Congress meanwhile came fourth in both the seats and lost its deposits.
The counting was taken up on Thursday of votes cast on January 29 during the by-polls for both the seats. The Congress was fourth in both the constituencies.
In the Noapara by-poll, necessitated by the death of Congress legislator Madhusudan Ghose, Trinamool’s Sunil Singh won by more than 63,000 votes over his nearest rival Sandip Banerjee of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Left Front-backed Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate Gargi Chatterjee finished a close third, after running second in the initial rounds of counting.
Trinamool’s Sajda Ahmed had established an emphatic lead of over 2.38 lakh votes against Anupam Mallik of the BJP in Uluberia, which has a large Muslim population.
