He pointed out the action taken against A.V.George who had been removed from the position of Ernakulam rural IG and also suspended him from the service. The Chief Minister ruled out any interference from the government on the issue and said that it had been a common practice to seek judicial advice by an investigation team regarding a case under their ambit. Everything is under the High Court’s consideration and also Sreejith’s family has taken a favourable stand on the current investigation.

Pinarayi Vijayan said that his government would not view with laxity cases on custodial deaths.

The opposition not content on CM’s answer staged a walkout from the Assembly. Ramesh Chennithala, leader of the opposition accused the CM of misleading the Assembly. He said that it is the first instance when a person was arrested mistaking him for another person and killed in the custody. The leader of opposition demanded that the real culprits in the case should not be allowed to escape.

Ramesh Chennithala informed that Sreejith’s family had demanded a CBI probe and if the government had nothing to hide, why they were afraid of it?
