In Vembayam Panchayath of Thiruvananthapuram district, Left has managed to maintain it’s supremacy with the support of SDPI. But they said that SDPI is supporting them not by their request. Of the total 21 members in the panchayat, CPI(M) has 6 and CPI has 3 Seats. UDF holds 8 seats while BJP has 2 and SDPI got the lone seat. There is an independent candidate who supports left. It was CPI(M) who was ruling the Panchayath for long. According to the understanding inside their coalition, CPI(M) candidate made way for CPI.

In the election that was conducted exactly on the same day of Abhimanyu’s death, BJP didn’t take part and CPIs candidate won 11 seats with the support of SDPI. The left leaders explained that even if SDPI had not voted for them, they would have still won.
