Malaysian police rescue kidnapped Indian, arrest three Pakistanis

Sanjeev , An Indian national from Madhya Pradesh, was rescued from his Pakistani abductors by the Royal Malaysian Police on Saturday night, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Sunday.

“Abducted Sanjiv has been rescued. The Royal Malaysian Police arrested three Pakistani kidnappers in this case. Indian ambassador Mridul and his team are deserving of praise,” wrote Swaraj on Twitter.

“Indian high Commission was in constant touch with police during the operation. Heartiest congratulations to the police authorities for speedy action,” a tweet posted from the official handle of the Indian Embassy in Malaysia read.

Sanjiv was rescued from a lodging house in Tampoi in Johor state, located at the southern tip of the Malaysian peninsula bordering Singapore, after his family said that they had received a ransom demand from the abductors.

Malaysian media reported that the police raided the lodging house at 4.30 pm on Saturday. They found 28-year-old Sanjiv tied up and three armed Pakistani nationals guarding him.

Sanjiv was found unhurt but was sent for medical examination.

Johor police chief Mohammed Khalil Kader Mohammed told the Malaysian media that all three Pakistanis have been arrested.

He said that the abductors had demanded a ransom amount of Malaysian Ringgit 200,000 (Rs 33 lakh approximately) for Sanjiv’s release, threatening to kill him if the amount was not paid.

A separate police report about the abduction had been filed by the friend of the victim, also an Indian national, in Shah Alam in Selangor state, located 340 kms northeast of Johor.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanked Swaraj, the Royal Malaysian Police and officials of the Indian Embassy in Malaysia for the rescue.

“Very happy to share that Sanjiv from MP who was abducted in Malaysia has been rescued. Thank @MEAIndia, @hcikl & Royal Malaysian Police for their speedy action. Under the leadership of @SushmaSwaraj, safety & security of Indians living abroad is the topmost priority of our govt,” he wrote on Twitter.
